What had already got cheaper before the festive sale

· · by

Correction, 28 September 2026. This article first said the festive sale had started. It had not. Amazon's Great Indian Festival opens on 8 October and Flipkart's Big Billion Days on 9 October. The figures below are unchanged. They describe how prices moved in the weeks before the sales.

On 23 September we said the early price moves looked real but narrow. Three days later, with a lot more readings, that still holds.

We compared 343 listings against what the same listing charged between 13 and 21 September. By 26 September, 73 were cheaper by 3% or more. 36 were dearer. The other 234 had not moved.

Among the ones that fell, the typical fall is 9%.

Flipkart's Early Bird Deals have run since 24 September, which may explain some of these. The main sales open on 8 and 9 October.

Of 343 listings compared with their prices between 13 and 21 September, 73 were cheaper by three percent or more, 234 were unchanged, and 36 were dearer. The typical fall among those that fell was nine percent.

The biggest price falls

These are measured against the same listing's own price between 13 and 21 September, not against any declared MRP.

Product 13 to 21 Sep 26 Sep Less by
Vega VHSB04 straightener ₹2,090 ₹1,397 ₹693
Braun FS1000 shaver ₹1,954 ₹1,311 ₹643
Braun BT5410 trimmer ₹2,449 ₹1,664 ₹785
Havells FD5004 trimmer ₹2,331 ₹1,599 ₹732
VGR V581 straightener ₹2,499 ₹1,799 ₹700
VGR V733 epilator ₹2,999 ₹2,173 ₹826
VGR V001 trimmer ₹7,841 ₹6,099 ₹1,742

Trimmers took most of the cuts: 34 of the 73 falls. Then hair dryers with 15 and straighteners with 8.

If you are waiting on a trimmer, these are the prices to beat when the sales open. If you are after something else, the odds are your product is one of the 234 that did not move.

The toothbrush went back

On 23 September we reported an Oracura SB300 whose price rose to ₹2,359 while its declared MRP doubled to ₹5,900, taking its badge from 40% off to 60% off.

On 25 September both of its listings read ₹1,768 again, against a declared MRP of ₹2,950, with the badge back at 40% off. The doubled figure lasted about three days.

We do not know why it changed, or why it changed back, and we are not going to guess. We are reporting the correction because we reported the original.

The declared MRPs moved a little

Across the same 343 listings, 14 raised their declared MRP after mid-September and 8 lowered it. The moves are small, mostly ₹100 to ₹500.

On 23 September it was 8 up and 11 down. So the tilt has changed direction, but the numbers are small either way, and nothing here looks like a pattern yet. It is worth another look once the sales are on.

What to do before the sales open

Note today's price of anything you plan to buy. When the sales open, compare against that and against what the listing charged in the middle of September, not against the badge. Our pre-sale prices page holds a frozen record of 223 products from 18 August to 17 September. Our real deals page lists the discounts that survive that test, and every product page carries the daily price we recorded.

What this does not show

It is a sample. We check listings in rotation, so this is the 343 that happened to be priced in both windows, not the whole catalogue.

The baseline matters. The comparison window is 13 to 21 September here. One trimmer shows a 43% fall against that baseline, but it sold for less than this in early September, so we left it out of the table above.

A fall is not proof of a sale. Prices move for ordinary reasons too.

Observed between 13 and 26 September 2026 across Amazon, Flipkart and Nykaa.
