Trimmers under ₹1,000, and what their discount badges show

· · by

Sixteen trimmers sell under ₹1,000 on Amazon, Flipkart or Nykaa. The typical one carries a badge saying 42% off. Measured against what the same trimmer had actually been selling for over the previous four weeks, the typical price drop was nothing.

Twelve of the sixteen cost the same today as they usually do, or more.

Bar chart comparing two measures across 16 trimmers under 1,000 rupees. The median discount badge reads 42 percent off, while the median fall from the trimmer's own usual selling price is 0 percent.

That is not an accusation. It is a statement about what the badge measures.

What the badge is actually measuring

A discount badge is the distance between today's price and the MRP the listing declares. It is not a claim that the price fell. Nothing on the page says the product ever sold at the higher number.

So a badge can be arithmetically correct and still tell you nothing useful. If a trimmer has sat at ₹799 every day for a month against a declared MRP of ₹1,499, the listing will show 47% off every one of those days. The number is correct, but the price has not moved.

That is the gap this page measures.

How we worked out the real number

For each trimmer we took the cheapest price available on any of the three platforms, each day, from 10 August to 7 September 2026. That gives 21 days of observations across four weeks.

The middle value of that series is what we call the usual price. Today's price against the usual price is the real move. Today's price against the declared MRP is the badge.

Only products we have watched for at least four separate days are included, so a listing we saw once cannot swing the result.

Read the last two columns together and the badge column stops meaning much.

The three that are cheaper than usual

Three trimmers are at least 5% below their own recent normal.

Philips NT3650, ₹999 on Flipkart. Usual price ₹1,165, and it has been as high as ₹1,430 in the last month. A 14% fall. Its badge is one of the smallest in the table, at 26% off.

Havells NE6322, ₹522 on Amazon. Usual price ₹571, down 9%, and it is the cheapest trimmer in the band.

VGR V071, ₹949 on Amazon. Usual price ₹999, so a 5% move. Small, but real.

Notice that the trimmer with the largest badge in the table is not on this list, and the one with the third smallest badge leads it.

The three that are dearer than usual

Three trimmers cost more today than their own four-week median, while still displaying a discount.

The clearest is the VGR V055. It shows 58% off against a declared MRP of ₹2,200. It is also ₹70 above its own usual price of ₹859, and it has been available at ₹799 inside the last month. The badge is large, but today's price is above its usual level.

The others are the Vega VHTH25 at 9% above usual and the Nova NHT1073 at 3%.

Where the MRP itself is disputed

Five of the trimmers in this band carry different declared MRPs on different platforms, which means the badge is being calculated from two different starting numbers for the same product. Those sit in the MRP mismatch report, and only one of the two figures can match what is printed on the pack.

We cannot tell you which one is wrong. We can tell you they disagree.

What this page does not establish

Four weeks is a short window, and it is the main limit here.

  • A long-standing discount looks like no discount. If a trimmer was cut in price in June and has held that price ever since, our median sits at the low price and the real move reads as zero. That is a genuine blind spot, not a finding about the seller.
  • It says nothing about intent. A stale MRP and an uncorrected catalogue entry look the same as any other cause from outside.
  • Sixteen products is a small sample, in one price band of one category.
  • We have never held the pack. Every MRP here is the figure a listing declares, not one read off a box.

Price history on this site starts on 10 August 2026. The window gets more useful every week, and this page will be worth rewriting when there is a year of it.

The one-line version

The badge tells you how far today's price sits from the MRP shown on the listing. It does not tell you the price went down. For twelve of these sixteen trimmers, it hadn't.

If you want to run the check yourself on any product, the method is in how to check whether a discount is real. The live list of what is cheap in this band right now is on the trimmers under ₹1,000 page, and the Ratelens Score explains how we rank them.
